Last weekend, the Cake Escapes family spent the weekend in London. As we rose back to street level from the underground we were surprised by this oh-so-cute illuminated cart. It showcased such a pretty array of cakes – we couldn’t walk by without pausing to look…which quickly turned into buying!
Who could resist this colourful sight? Spot the little fingers pulling up a mini Cake-Escaper desperately trying to get her eyes above the counter!
All the cakes were so delicately and neatly presented. From perfect piped swirls to tempting fresh fruit, chocolate and caramel decorations – there was lots of flavours we wanted to try! We decided to try a selection of the mini cupcakes:
The mini Cake-Escapers were won over by the pink and purple decorations on the vanilla cupcakes – their eyes and smiles were as bright as the icing!
I chose the chocolate heaven cupcake as it looked so indulgent -even in it’s mini form. The cake was light and spongey, and the icing was a rich dark chocolate ganache, with enough bitterness to offset the sweetness. The chocolate quarters on the top were an added treat.
Mr Cake Escapes opted for the salted caramel cupcake which sadly didn’t hang around long enough to have it’s close up! It was presented with a whip of salted caramel icing, a puddle of caramel and two chocolate shards.
Sister Cake Escapes chose the passion fruit cupcake which had a vanilla base, passion fruit buttercream and fresh passion fruit – a lovely light cupcake with a summery and refreshing flavour. The buttercream was so smooth and melted in the mouth like a sorbet.
Lola’s cupcakes can be found across London in train stations, markets and departments stores. Their branded carts and stalls are certainly eye-catching and stand out from the crowds. Take a look at their website for all their locations and their full range of cupcakes, celebrations cakes, cheesecakes and personalised cakes.
I’m looking forward to out next trip to London as there were many more flavours I would have loved to have tried!
